Up Close and Personal with a Downy Woodpecker

It was an unusually warm day in Niagara for this time of year, so my friend and I decided to try our luck at one of our favourite places in St. Catharines, Malcolmson Park.  After chasing cardinals and black-capped chickadee's for about a half an hour, we ventured into the wooded area of the park to try our luck at the pond. To our delight, a beautiful female Downy Woodpecker settled in on a tree about 10 feet from us.  After some tree stump climbing and camera adjustments, I was able to catch my best photo of a Downy Woodpecker to date:)
